This created a stir at the “Science & Technology Expo” because music has neither been remotely considered an “invention” nor “technology”. However, in the case of Play By Ear Resources, they have shown that Newer and Better Methods can still be discovered and implement to learn to play music. This year, they are showcasing a system they developed over 5 years: “Talent Assessment System”. “The Talent Assessment System is a way to help the individual to find out accurately where their musical talent lies. We check them out in areas like Aural Imaging, Pitch Sensing, Harmony Sensing, Rhythm Evaluation, Dexterity Assessment, Memory Check and Coordination.” Explains Alex Leow, the founder of the Play By Ear Method and the Talent Assessment System.
“It is useful for helping individuals make informed decisions. The guesswork is taken out. When they know their strengths and weaknesses, they can choose whether or not to indulge in music; what instrument to choose and whether they could pursue it as a career.” Adds Vincent Lee, head of Franchise & Teacher's Development Department.
