What Next If I Have Music Basics & Can Play By Ear? |

 For those who have basics in music and can Play By Ear, what next? Your next stage is probably Harmony and Improvisation on a structured basis if you can't do better than playing only what you heard or what you read from the music score. Listen to a basic nice decent song: ever noticed how the bass lines are made interesting and different from what's normal? How did they do that? Then listen to the fullness of the song. How come the arranger and player knows what extra notes to add to enrich the songs while most of our playing are so thinny and basic? What gives? Listen to the lush string background that makes us go wooshy with fullness and euphoria. What is the criteria to decide what to do to create that? Then there are the fills. They always come up with the perfect ones. How? And then listen to how the 'jazz' up the melody. Isn't it about time you learn how to do it? That is because musicality and confidence has been built into them right from the start, not later. These traits are not built overnight but by constant implanting.
